Privacy Policy

Aangan Care ("Aangan", "we", "us") is a baby-care tracking app that helps a parent log and safely back up their child's feeds, sleep, growth, and related care information. We take the privacy of you and your child seriously. This policy explains, in plain language, what we collect, why, where it is stored, and the choices and rights you have.

This policy is written to align with India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP).

1. What we collect

We only collect what the app needs to do its job for you:

Parent details you enter — your name and (optionally) a profile photo.
Child details you enter — your child's name and date of birth.
Care logs you create — the care information you record for your child: feeding, sleep, growth (weight, height, head circumference), temperature, vaccination, and medicine records, along with any notes you write in your child's notebook and any documents (photos or PDFs) you choose to upload.
Account information — an anonymous device account is created automatically. If you choose "Secure my data", we also store the email address you provide so you can recover your data on a new device.

We do not collect your contacts, precise location, browsing activity, or any advertising identifiers. The app contains no third-party advertising or analytics trackers.

2. Why we collect it

To let you track and review your child's feeds, sleep, and growth.
To back up your data securely to the cloud so it is not lost if your phone is lost, replaced, or reinstalled.
To send a one-time verification code by email when you choose to secure or restore your data.

We do not use your data for advertising, and we never sell it.

3. Children's data

Aangan is used by a parent or lawful guardian who enters information about their own child. In line with DPDP Section 9, we do not use children's data for targeted advertising, behavioural tracking, or profiling. The child's data is used solely to provide the tracking and backup features to you, the parent.

4. How your data is stored & protected

On your device first — the app works fully offline; your data is stored locally and the app does not depend on the network to function.
In the cloud (India) — when backed up, your data is stored with our cloud provider Supabase, hosted in Mumbai, India (ap-south-1).
Access controls — database security rules ensure that only your own account can read or write your data. Profile photos are kept in a private storage area scoped to your account.
Encryption — data is transmitted over secure (HTTPS/TLS) connections.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run the app:

Supabase — cloud database, file storage, and authentication (data hosted in India).
Resend — to deliver the one-time verification email when you secure or restore your data.
Anthropic — the AI provider behind the optional "Ask Aangan" assistant. Used only when you choose to ask a question, and only a minimal, de-identified summary is sent (never your child's name, your name, photos, or documents). See the "Ask Aangan AI" section below.

These providers process data only on our behalf, to provide their service.

6. How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as you use the app, so it is available to you across your devices. You can ask us to delete it at any time (see your rights below). When you request deletion, your data is removed from our cloud.

7. Your rights

Under the DPDP Act, you have the right to:

Access the personal data we hold about you and your child.
Correct or update inaccurate data (most of which you can edit directly in the app).
Delete your data ("right to erasure").
Withdraw consent for cloud backup at any time.

To exercise any of these, email care@aangan.io and we will action your request. (In-app one-tap data deletion is being added.)

8. Consent

You can use the core app on your device without backing up to the cloud. Cloud backup and account linking are optional and happen only when you choose them. You may withdraw consent for cloud backup at any time by requesting deletion of your cloud data.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical safeguards (access controls, encryption in transit, India-based storage) to protect your data. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you of any breach as required by law.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will revise the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.

11. Grievance redressal

If you have any concern or complaint about how your data is handled, contact our grievance contact at care@aangan.io. We will respond within the timelines required under the DPDP Act.

Family sharing & child documents (added 6 July 2026)

You can share a child's profile with family members you invite by code. Members you invite see and add tracking entries for that child; each person's entries remain their own. Medical documents you upload (photos/PDFs) are stored privately in India and are visible only to you and members you explicitly grant access (parents you invite as Mother/Father are granted by default). Removing a member ends their access; you choose whether entries they logged stay with the family. Deleting your data also deletes your documents and memberships. As the account holder you confirm you are the child's parent or legal guardian and consent to this processing on their behalf.

Ask Aangan AI (added July 2026)

The app includes an optional assistant, Ask Aangan, that answers everyday parenting and child-health questions grounded in trusted guidance (such as the Indian Academy of Pediatrics and the World Health Organization). It is a support tool, not a doctor — it does not diagnose or prescribe, and it directs you to your pediatrician or emergency care for anything urgent.

If you prefer that no data ever reaches the AI provider, simply do not use the Ask tab.

Reading your documents (optional)

The app has an optional feature that can read a document or photo you have uploaded — a prescription, lab report, vaccination card, or a photo of a medicine's packaging — and pull out the key facts (such as a medicine's name and strength) so you can save them to your child's private notebook or medicines list. It is a convenience for organising what a document says; it is not medical advice, and the original document and your pediatrician remain the source of truth.

If you prefer that no document contents ever reach the AI provider, simply do not use the “Extract into notebook” action.
